Camping status
How we describe whether you can camp
Public land does not automatically mean legal camping. Each location will carry one of these statuses, and "unknown" is an acceptable answer.

Designated site published by a managing agency.
- Dispersed allowed
Agency guidance indicates dispersed camping is permitted.
- Community reported
Reported by campers and not yet verified against an agency source.
- Potential area
Looks plausible from open data. Legality not confirmed.
- Seasonal
Open only during part of the year.
- Permit required
A permit or reservation is required before camping.
- Restricted
Camping is limited by rules, closures, or access.
- Prohibited
Camping is not allowed here.
- Unknown
We do not have enough information yet.
