Cookies & Tracking

Last updated August 25, 2026. What No Map Required stores in your browser, and what it deliberately does not.

No advertising or third-party trackers

NMR does not load any advertising pixel, ad network tag or third-party analytics SDK. There is no Reddit Pixel, no Reddit Conversions API, no Meta Pixel, no Google Analytics and no session-replay tool. Product analytics is first-party: the app tells our own server that a named action happened.

If that ever changes — for example if we add an advertising pixel for a paid campaign — we will update this page before it goes live and add a consent choice where consent is required.

What we store, and why

Sign-in session (required). When you sign in, your session is kept by the browser so you stay signed in between visits. Without it you cannot use an account.

Your preferences (required for the feature). Choices such as your unit system, solar setup, first-run state and locally drafted messages are stored on your device so the app behaves the way you left it.

Offline packs (only if you ask). If you download a location for offline use, the pack and a bounded offline access receipt are stored on your device. Cached packs never grant membership access on their own.

First-touch campaign attribution. If you arrive from a campaign or advertising link, your browser stores the campaign tags in the URL, the referring site's host name, the landing path, and — for Reddit ad links — the click id Reddit adds to the URL. It is written once and never overwritten by later visits, so we can tell which channels bring travelers to NMR. If you later create an account, it is attached to that account. The campaign and creative tags are also sent with our own product events so we can tell which campaign a visit came from; the Reddit click id is not — it stays on the server record for your account only.

Session-once flags. A small marker records that a landing view has already been counted for this browsing session, so one visit is not counted repeatedly.

Infrastructure. Our hosting and payment providers may set cookies necessary to serve, secure or complete a checkout.

Your control

  • Clearing site data for NMR removes your stored preferences, offline packs and campaign attribution, and signs you out.
  • Blocking storage entirely will stop sign-in, offline mode and preferences from working.
  • Attribution is stored as campaign tags and a referring host — not a cross-site advertising identifier.

More detail

The Privacy Policy explains what we do with this information, and the Terms of Use covers the rest of the service. Questions go through the contact page.

Because no advertising or third-party analytics tracker is installed, NMR does not currently show a consent banner. A consent choice will be required before any such tracker is added for visitors in the EU, UK and similar jurisdictions.
